With so many amazing birds and locations, wildly different seasons, and vast distances....it can be a challenge to plan and carry out your trip. If you're thinking of spending a day, 3-days, or a full week or more in the area, I can optimize your time to help you experience more.
Whether you're a beginning birder or trying to get in to the "700 Club," searching for Sky Island specialities or winter grassland birds, doing a Big Day or Big Year, Borderland Birds will customize and optimize your trip and help accomplish your goals.
Providing expert guide services for you or your group. Customized trips to meet your needs and give you the best birding experience possible. That's Borderland Birds!
Grassland-Woodland interface and the Santa Rita Mountains; home of Botteri's sparrow.
I'll develop a custom birding trip itinerary based on your targets, goals, skills and abilities, and provide daily checklists as well as trip reports (for multiple day trips).
Depending on your goals, we'll visit 1-3 locations or do targeted birding for single species or rarities. For example we might explore the Santa Cruz Valley from Green Valley to Tubac and visit hotspots like Desert Meadows Park, Canoa Ranch Conservation Park, the De Anza Trail at Tubac Bridge/Ron Morris Park, and Santa Gertrudis Lane. Or we might make a trip to search for rarities at a single site like Pena Blanca Lake, Florida Canyon or Ramanote Canyon.
Depending on your goals, we'll visit 3 or more locations and sample multiple ecotypes/elevations, or focus on a list of species. For example we might meet in Green Valley, visit a few lower elevation desert sites, then work our way up in elevation to include grassland birds, lower canyon birds and then visit pine-oak sites in Madera Canyon. Or we could spend the day on Mount Lemmon sampling an elevational gradient from desert scrub to mixed conifer for Sky Island specialties.
Typically we'll focus on listening to and seeing several species at multiple sites within a local area (e.g., Madera Canyon). We could also add night birding to your Custom Multi-Day Tour and search for specific target species.
These are multi-day tours specifically planned for you. We'll base out of one location and make multiple Half-Day and/or Full-Day trips based on your target list or goals. Or we could base out of several locations in order to include ecotypes and species that are found in limited locations. Or we could visit locations with scenic beauty and species diversity in order to explore the landscape and its' birds...it's really up to you!
A fully-customized itinerary for your multi-day tour. For example a custom trip might include a combination of Half- and Full-Days, Owling, or visiting and staying in different parts of Arizona or New Mexico.
